I am so excited to share Bella’s first birthday watermelon cake smash photo session! There is something so special about a first birthday – both for the birthday kiddo, but also for mom and dad! That first year of life can be overwhelming in so many good and not so good ways, and getting to that first birthday is a huge milestone that deserves all the celebration. And what better way to celebrate than with cake?!

Bella’s mom, Lisa, and I have been friends for a while now – we actually started doing a weekly Bible study/coffee date when Bella was about four months old. It has been such a joy to get to watch this little girl grow, and it was an honor to document this birthday celebration!

We met at Newport News Park early morning one HOT July day a few days before Bella’s birthday, on a day that just so happened to be Lisa’s birthday (again, cue all the celebration!). Lisa had perfectly prepared all of the watermelon-themed details and I was loving her attention to detail! Everything was perfectly on theme from the balloons to the real watermelon Lisa brought! Bella wasn’t totally sure what was happening or what we were up to, but she definitely loved her cake!! Be sure to check out the photo of her yelling at us because she saw the cake but we hadn’t given it to her yet!

Lisa, thank you so much for sharing your girl with me and trusting me to document this milestone for you!
