Coburn | Williamsburg Family Portraits

December 6, 2023

I bet you’re wondering what happened to my favorite family after their Williamsburg family portraits sneak peak post back in October! Don’t worry! I shared their photos with them, but my schedule got so busy I haven’t had a chance to blog them until now! I keep saying I’m going to have to do a “through the years” post for the Coburns. We’d be digging DEEP in the archives for that one. I’ve been photographing this family since 2012!

There is no question in either of our minds that God brought Alissa and I together. I’ll share the full story in the “through the years” post, but trust me, it’s a good one. I have had the honor and privilege to watch this family grow, and they’ve watched me grow as well. Alissa truly is the sister I never had, and I am beyond thankful for her and her sweet family.

One of the MANY reasons I love photographing this family so much is how completely the trust me during our sessions. Alissa chose Williamsburg for this year’s session and they even drove up there to map out a route for us (amazing!). When we got to the parking lot though, the light was INCREDIBLE. Though it was in the opposite direction of the route they’d planned, they allowed me to drag the ENTIRE family – 12 people!! – across the busy street to follow the light. Alissa and Josiah have always placed immense trust in me, and I cannot thank them enough for that. In addition to being incredibly trusting, they are both unyieldingly kind. It is not an overstatement to say that they love people like Jesus does.

I could go on forever about this family, they truly are incredible. But I know you want to see the pictures so I’ll wrap it up here.

Alissa and Josiah, thank you for trusting God’s guiding so many years ago (and so often since!). Thank you for so so many things. Most of all, thank you for taking a chance on a brand new photographer for your wedding. It truly blossomed the sweetest friendship and I am forever thankful for you! Enjoy this latest round of family photos! I truly think these are the best yet!

I started adding in Destiny’s family photos and the post got super long, so definitely stay tuned for a post just for Destiny, Nick and their beautiful girls!

One of my favorite games to play at a family session is called Run to Me. Toward the end of the session when the kids start losing interest, I line everyone up and tell the kids I have a fun surprise for them! I’ll tell the kids that when I count to three, they need to run to me! It always produces the best smiles and most laughter, I love it!

The grownups are usually “left behind” after the kids run past me. Something tells me they don’t mind it 🙂
